Antique 18th brooch Flower Georgian Diamond Paste Solid silver Beautiful
Here is a beautiful brooch in Georgian style that tests as 925 solid silver. It has bright and clear diamond paste stones.
There is a stamp on the end of one of the flower stems. I cannot make out what the mark is. I am describing it as white metal, since it has no hallmark.
Pastes, according to Antique Paste Jewellery by Malcolm David Samuel Lewis, is "glass which has been cut into gem-like forms". They were used extensively from the 1700s to the early 1900s and were a desired material in themselves, not a replacement for diamonds and gem stones.
